To get in the spirit of Independence Day, put together some veggie kabobs. Nothing says Summer like the bright colors of potatoes, peppers, cucumbers, zucchini, and tomatoes. Sprinkle some with salt and coat them in some olive oil. Spice up others with a bit of cayenne and paprika. You can cut and season these ahead of time, and go ahead and arrange them on skewers. On the big day, toss them on the grill before you throw on the burgers and dogs.

Red, White, and Blue Deviled Eggs

The magic happens after you boil them, so hard-boil them as you normally do on the stove or in an egg cooker.

After they're cooled, peeled, and cut in half, scoop out the yolk, then separate your halves. Place some of the whites in a bowl of red food coloring, hot water, and distilled white vinegar, and some of them in a bowl with blue food coloring. The rest can stay white. Do all of this prep the night before and, on the day of, arrange your colorful eggs in a flag design.

You need a bottle of Prosecco, as well, and a bottle of vodka, but you won't use all of that—you only need about four ounces.

To sweeten up your grapes, get some sugar, too. Soak the grapes overnight in a bowl that contains the Prosecco and vodka, and cover the bowl with a protective lid. After they've soaked, drain and dry the grapes, then stick them in the freezer. Before serving, roll them in the sugar. Just bear in mind that these make-ahead summer appetizers are just for the adults! You can freeze grapes without the booze for the kids—just keep the batches separate!
